Peter Pan and Wendy in Candy

Everyone already knows that Peter Pan was a boy who didn’t want to grow up. He would listen to the stories told at the Darling family home in London every night. Mrs. Darling told different stories every night to her children: Wendy, John and Michael.

The Darling family didn’t own much. They didn’t have a nanny, only a dog who superbly fulfilled that role. She was caring, considerate… everything they needed for the children to be well protected. Nana, the dog, also listened to the beautiful bedtime stories: including the story of Peter Pan, a boy who didn’t want to grow up.

Every night, Mrs. Darling told her beautiful stories. Some nights ago, she found unusual leaves near the window, and they were not from trees that grew in London. They belonged to trees that grew in very distant places. She was very intrigued!

One night, Nana saw a strange shadow inside the children’s bedroom. She grabbed it with her mouth, and the shadow didn’t have time to run away with its owner: Peter Pan. Mrs. Darling observed it all, took the shadow, folded it, put it inside a drawer, and didn’t know what else to do. She was terrified!

Peter Pan was desperate. He did not have his shadow.

Later, he returned to Wendy’s bedroom. With the help of his fairy friend, Tinker Bell, they searched everywhere. Finally, they found his shadow.

Peter Pan tried everything he could to attach his shadow to him again, but nothing worked. He cried, and cried so hard that Wendy woke up.

Wendy asked the boy why he was crying. He answered that he couldn’t attach his shadow back to his body.

Wendy sewed Peter Pan’s shadow to him and fixed the problem. Later, Wendy, who was very curious, wanted to know everything about Peter’s life: his name, where he lived, what he did…

He said that he lived far away:

“…second right, then go ahead all the way, until morning. That place is far, far away. I have no family. I ran away from home, because I didn’t want to grow up. I want to be a kid forever, so I can have a lot of fun. I ran away to Kensington Gardens to live among fairies.”

Wendy asked:

“I would like to know, where does the fairies come from?”

Peter answered:

“Every time a baby laughs for the first time a fairy is created. When a child says it doesn’t believe in fairies, another dies in that exact moment.”

Peter remembered that he needed to go back to his home and finish telling Mrs. Darling story (which he just listened to) to the lost boys. He listened to the stories every night from the balcony of Mrs. Darling house and went back home flying to tell them to the lost boys.

“How are you going to Neverland?” Wendy asked.

“Flying! Wendy, You could tell the stories to the lost boys.”

“I can’t! Mother would be incredibly sad. But, flying would be fantastic!”

Wendy was delighted with the idea. She decided to go, take her brothers with her, but they had to learn how to fly…

The flying lesson was very quick.

Peter Pan said:

“You just have to have nice thoughts. They will make anyone float in the air.” They obviously also needed Tinker Bell’s Pixie Dust.

All it took was a blow of Pixie Dust to make them fly.

They went up, down, up…

From another room, Nana smelled something strange, she was very suspicious and had been deceived by them. Even so, she left to alert their parents, who were having dinner at the neighbors’ house. Unfortunately, they didn’t make it. They were already gone.

The children left their room. They were fascinated by this great adventure. They flew over their own house. They saw the neighboring houses. The Big Ben… They were, literally, on cloud nine. They went up, glided, to everywhere. They left London: Big Ben, London Bridge, Kensington Park, Buckingham Palace, the Queen’s guards… everything and everyone was left behind.

They flew, and flew, for a long time… They even played of “follow the leader”.

When they were tired of flying for so long, they spotted an incredible land, just like a map that is in every child’s head. They saw everything: Indian tents, mysterious river, wolf packs, bears, turtles burying eggs on the beach, Mermaid Lagoon, boat, pirates… in short, the whole map. Now the map was not only in their imagination, it was real. Make-believe was left behind.

The island was just the same as in their heads. The lost boys were looking for Peter, the pirates were looking for the lost boys, the indians were looking for the pirates and the beasts were after the Indians. Everyone was on the Neverland circle. Everyone was looking for someone.

Tinker Bell, up in the sky, was very jealous, because Peter Pan only paid attention to Wendy. The little fairy, then, had an idea: arriving earlier and telling the lost boys to shoot arrows at the pink bird who flew close to Peter Pan. The lost boys complied with Tinker Bell’s request, and Wendy was shot by an arrow. Fortunately, the worst didn’t happen to Wendy. Tinker Bell was discovered and punished by Peter Pan. The lost Boys were terrified, they helped Wendy and welcomed the new visitors.

Eager, John and Michael wanted to unveil Neverland. The lost boys, wearing clothes of hunted animals, took the visitors to try to see the mermaids. However, the mermaids didn’t want to be seen and, as soon as the outsiders arrived, dived into the lagoon, one by one. Unfortunately, they didn’t saw much. Nevertheless, they were extremely happy.

On the other side of the island, the pirates, knowing of Peter Pan’s presence, provoked him by tying to the boat the daughter of the Indian shaman and were taking her to Captain Hook, Peter Pan’s enemy number one.

Peter Pan cunningly pretended to be Captain Hook, mimicked his voice, and ordered the pirates to free the little Indian. When they were at the beach, the pirates realized they had been deceived. Pirates and Peter Pan fought for the Indian.

After defeating everyone, Peter Pan and Wendy took the Indian safe and sound to her tribe.

The Indians were extremely pleased with Peter Pan feat. They decided to help Peter and the lost boys. They were going to keep some of them vigilant near the boys’ hideout. They warned everyone about the indigenous rituals: when they win a battle, they play the drums to signal that the enemy was beaten.

Captain Hook was very unhappy with his last defeat, so he worked on a thousand different ways to imprison his worst enemy, who named Hook when he cut off the Captain’s hand and gave it to a crocodile that loved his flesh and now wants to devour the rest of his body. Luckily for the Captain, the crocodile also swallowed an alarm clock that makes everyone knows when it is near, for the “tik tok” sound goes wherever the reptile goes. Lucky you, Captain Hook! Are you?

Captain Hook scoured inch by inch of Neverland and found nothing.

Until… he came close to some giant mushrooms and saw smoke coming out of one of them. The mystery was unraveled! He discovered their secret: the lost boys lived underground, that is why he had never found them.

“Phew! Now it is my turn! I will come up with a plan!” the villain said.

Meanwhile in the underground, the lost boys listened, and listened, to the beautiful stories told by Wendy.

They were all happy… Wendy, John and Michael too. But, one night, Wendy tells her story to the boys and fondly remembers of her mother. She thinks: “How is she? How good it was to have a mother!” The lost boys wanted to have a mother, just like the visitors. She missed her too much! They decided to go back home. The lost boys decided to go with Wendy, John, and Michael. Peter Pan said he would not go with them, for he didn’t want to grow up. To him, “Adulthood is no good at all…”

From above the underground, the Indians carefully guarded the lost boys’ hideout. They wanted very much to help them, but the pirates scanned the whole region and were getting closer and closer… And the Indians were not enough to scare the pirates away. They sneaked in, fought, and overpowered the Indians. Knowing about the indigene secret, they played the drums, and the boys left their hideout to go back to London, thinking everything was normal and quiet. They were all captured, tied by the pirates, and taken to the pirate ship.

Peter Pan, alone in the underground, thought that everyone was already close to the Darling’s household, number 14 in London, close to the Big Ben. However, Tinker Bell, regretting everything she had done to Wendy, came to warn Peter Pan that Captain Hook’s evil plan was to finish everyone and poison him. Captain had put poison in Peter Pan’s medicine. He didn’t believe Tinker Bell anymore and, to prove she was right, she drank the poison and died. However, as all children believe in fairies, Tinker Bell came back to life.

After all the trouble they faced, Peter Pan had to do something different to end Captain Hook for good. He though, and thought, and found a way out…

On the pirate ship, everyone was imprisoned: Wendy was tied to the mast, the others were tied up… Captain Hook was in control.

Suddenly, they all heard a sound: Tik. Tok. Tik. Tok…

Captain Hook stood completely still, frightened by the ticking clock. It was Peter Pan, as clever as always, with an alarm clock in his hand. Now, Peter was in control. He untied Wendy and the boys. They all fought to reverse the situation.

Peter Pan and Captain Hook fought, and fought… Peter Pan pushed Captain Hook with a stupendous swing of his sword.

The crocodile watched it all with great joy, for he saw that his prey would easily come to his hungry mouth.

Splash! They fell into the water: hook, hat, captain, pirates… The crocodile frantically searched for his victim… Some pirates fell into the sea.

“Captain Hook?!?” the pirates shouted.

Peter Pan only saw a hat and a boat with a pirate quickly fleeing. They couldn’t even see the oar, such was the speed that he rowed.

And the Captain? No one knows, nobody saw him…

Peter Pan, Wendy, John, Michael, Tinker Bell, all the six lost boys…. they went home to London…

They traveled… and travelled… and travelled… travelled… and arrived at number 14,

Mrs. Darling was happy with the return of her children: Wendy, John, and Michael.

The children asked their mother to take in the lost boys, and their family did. The lost boys were happy, for they would go back to school, and grow, and grow, and grow…

Peter Pan returned to Neverland, for he didn’t want to grow up. He wanted to be present in the life of Wendy, of her daughter, and her granddaughter, and of every Wendy, every Michael, every John… He wanted to show the map of Neverland, not the make-believe one, but the real one, because he did not want to grow up. Adulthood was not for him.
