The Tortoise and the Hare in Candy

It was a very sunny, blue skyed, day of tranquility to all who lived in the city.
Around which, animals lived. They all knew each other, but… something was in the air – some were annoyed by the hare and his mocking. He was full of himself, because of his agility and the speed he could reach during a race, which was superior to that of his neighbors.
The tortoise, however, felt tired of hearing expressions such as: “Slow as a tortoise!” and wanted to prove, one way or another, that everyone has qualities. He though: “I won’t win a short race, but I have chances in a marathon.” Because of that, he decided to challenge the hare, the faster one…
They set place and date, and invited a few animals, who would be the judges and witnesses of the event.
On the scheduled date, all were there: the rabbits, the turtles, the pigs, the doggies, the cat, the chicken, the lion and the mouse. Oh! The ants too.
The fox would be the judge, and so turtle and hare went to their positions. The starting flag was waved, and the marathon began.
The tortoise raised a paw and, when it was about to hit the ground, the hare was already faaaar away! But the challenger wasn’t intimidated by that, he began his run, in his own pace.
Step by step, he followed the path. The hare moved further and further away.
But the tortoise kept his attitude.
The Hare was so distant, he decided to stop and chat with a rabbit, eating delicious carrots.
He ate so much, he fell asleep. The rabbit went away, for he had no one to talk to.
The hare wasn’t preoccupied at all, so he took a looong nap…
The tortoise, who was behind the hare all this time, passed through him while he slept. And he slept very well! The persistent competitor had seen plantations after plantations of such delicious lettuce but controlled himself and moved forward.
When he was barely reaching the finish line, the animals began to get excited. They screamed to the point the hare woke up. He didn’t even know where he was. Recovering himself, with a small body shake, he ran away, but it was too late!
SLOW-LY-THE-TUR-TLE-A-RRIVED-AT-THE-FI-NISH-LINE! Exhausted, panting, but he was there!
Persistence brought him the victory.
Now the hare won’t mock anyone. He doesn’t think of himself as the fastest runner.
